Welcome to Soil Advisor

We combine modern technology with individual field soil history to help you achieve optimum soil resilience.

Keeping it Simple

Precision farming and the use of yield mapping has been available since the late 1990’s yet its adoption is still limited. At Soil Advisor we believe one of the biggest problems is that there is little grower interaction. Pretty maps and high flying science often get lost in translation. Our aim is to keep the results and practical advice simple so that it can be readily used and applied on farm. We offer the agronomic experience to tailor the information so that you gain the best possible return on investment for your money.

Future Proofing your Business

Land has been farmed for 10,000 years it would be foolish to say we don’t know how to use our primary asset – SOIL!  Looking forward we will need to feed an increasing world population on a diminishing area with tighter environmental criteria. Understanding our soils, balancing nutrition and managing increased weather variability will be critical.

The cost of production per tonne will be instrumental in your ability to remain profitable as the subsidy system changes.

Cost Effective Solutions

The object of any precision farming is to ensure that the right input is targeted to the correct place.
By gathering information from satellite imagery, yield maps and personal knowledge of soil types we can ensure that the appropriate rates are applied across the field.  The example below clearly demonstrates different areas showing the opportunity to have sub– divisions and tailored inputs.

What we do

  • Soil Zone Mapping

Split fields into specific zones using information gathered from satellite, yield maps, agronomic findings and one-to-one consultations with grower.

  • Grid Sampling

Fields can be split into grids of your chosen size (1ha, 2ha etc) this system is tailored to higher value crops or for PCN testing.

  • GPS Marked Sampling

This allows for complete traceability of where your samples were taken from.  Having the samples GPS marked allows us to revisit and sample the exact same area therefore reducing the risk of variation between results.

  • Nutrient Management Plans

Fertiliser plans created using results from the zoned/grid soil sampling.

  • Vari-Rate Fertiliser Plans

Plug in and off you go! Plans can be created and imported straight into your chosen Vari-Rate spreader.

  • Monitor Soil Organic Levels

Regular GPS organic matter testing from pinned locations.

  • Tailored Paddock Management

Whether its for horses, sheep or hay meadows we cater for all uses.

  • Practical Advice

On farm advice on how to use the data collected and how it can be used to save costs.

Nutrient Management Plans

The Soil Advisor Process

  • Initial consultation to assess yield maps / field history and split fields into zones

  • Create sampling points within the split zones – 1/3 of the farm sampled each year

  • Sample with Kubota and GPS mark for complete traceability

  • Samples coded and sent away to the lab for analysis

  • Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Magnesium (Mg) and pH maps created (additional nutrients can also be sampled)

  • Nutrient Management Plans created (recommendations for both manual and Vari-Rate systems)
